　松江「ティファニー美術館」へのご提案が、遅くなってしまい申し訳ございません。
（ご依頼頂いてからあまりにも時間が経ってしまいました。）

昨年11月に短時間でしたが美術館を訪問し、その際すばらしく有意義な体験をしました。
その体験から美術館を閉館すべきではないと感じています。

わたくしは世界中の多くの美術館を訪問しましたが、その中でもティファニー美術館は
最も美しい美術館のひとつです。近代的で美しい建物が周辺の自然環境にうまく溶け込み、
素晴らしいティファニーコレクションを展示するのに完璧な場所です。
日本芸術とのコンビネーションも完璧で、わたくし好みでした。

わたくしは美術館が閉館すると伺って大変ショックを受け、いかにしてそれを回避し、
より一層素晴らしい美術館にしていくのかという提案を始めました。予算面だけが
閉館の理由だと思ったからです。

ミーティングの後、わたくしはそれが、法廷論争、約束を守らないことへの感情的な気持ち、
一方的なメディアの批判などが絡み合った大変複雑なものであると知りました。
最善の解決策への選択肢を分析しようと試み、問題とそれに対する解決策が、
以下の3つに分けられるのではないかと考えました。

１．法廷論争について。時間と経費の節約のための妥協案（譲歩案）を両者が
見出せない限り、最終的には法廷での決着に持ち込まれることになると思われます。

２．ティファニー美術館の経営、存続と支援に関して、美術館オーナー、市、県、その他の
団体が信頼関係を築けていないことについて。この状況は、すべての関係者が、
美術館を大きな成功へと導くべく、よい方向性を打ち出し最善を尽くす私的ミーティング
によってのみ改善されるでしょう。

３．いかにして美術館を大きな成功へと導くか、協力体制を持続するための選択肢が
あるとすれば、その結果として予算負担を軽減、場合によっては、この美術館を、
素晴らしいティファニーコレクションを中心とした独立経営のカルチャーセンターにして、
予算負担を失くしてしまうことも出来るでしょう。

※ 最善の解決法を取るチャンスを与えるために、オーナーは、2007年の4月いっぱいは、
（もし美術館が今月中に閉館したとしても）美術館のコレクションを残しておく方向で考え
なければなりません。

※ 4月中に数回のミーティングを開催する必要があります。最初はオーナーも参加し、
　この数回の会議の中で各々の考え（スケジュール、予算、人事、マーケティング計画
　なども含めて）を議論します。

※ 4月末までに新しいアイデアをまとめ、5月からは、それらすべてのアイデアの実行期間へ
　と切り替えていかなければなりません。

　上記プロセスにおいて、わたくしはいつでも力になります。おそらく、オーナー参加で
　最初の会議を行えば、続けていくチャンスがあるかどうか、またオーナーにその心の準備
　が出来ているかどうかが判断出来るでしょう。

　最初に述べましたが、この本当に素晴らしい場所、ティファニーコレクションのために建て
　られた場所からそのコレクションがなくなってしまうことは、「芸術」とりわけ「ティファ
　ニー」にとって大きな損失になるでしょう。

アイデア（一例）　

　一般論として、美術館で、ティファニー芸術に関連した異なる活動を行えばよいと考えます。
（日に何時間か、もしくは2,3日のセミナーなど）
　美術館と市が、この創造的な活動を（美術館のプログラムの一環として）売り込めば、
　すべての世代にとって美術館は活気に満ちた場所になるでしょう。
　また、（活動に参加した）人々は自分たちが創った芸術を、この場所に残すことも出来ます。

　宣伝活動は、地域、日本全国、そして外国人観光客相手の全ての旅行代理店に対して
　行わなければなりません。

　外国人観光客に対して魅力的かつ興味深いものにするためには、日本の芸術のみならず、
　ティファニー芸術と日本芸術の融合も必要です。

　この手紙を、美術館オーナー、小松氏、市長、そしてこの問題を共に解決してくれる皆様に
　お渡しいただければと思います。

Dear Ms. Takeuchi,

I am sorry for my late (maybe too late reaction to your request) to send my suggestions for
“The Tiffany Garden Museum” in Matsue.

I feel that I must open with the great and enlightening experience I had when we visited
shortly the museum in November last year.

I can say that it is one of the most beautiful museums I had ever seen (and I visited many
around the world). The combination of the natural surroundings with the modern and beautiful
building is a perfect place for the amazing collection of the Tiffany collection. Also the
combination with Japanese arts was, to my taste, perfect.

I was so shocked to hear that it’s going to be closed that I started to give suggestion
how to continue maintaining the museum and making it more alive. Because I thought that
the only reason is budget.

After our meeting I understood that it is much more complicated, involving a court dispute,
emotional feeling for not keeping promises and also media criticism which was totally
one sided. After trying to analyze the options for the best solutions I think I can divide
the problem and the solutions into 3 main layers:

1. Court Dispute which, seems must be continued and finalized in the court, unless the both
　 sides will decide to arrive to a compromise solution in order to save time and money.

2. Not good/untrust relations between the owner of the collection, the city, the prefecture
　and other parties that were involved in running, maintaining and supporting the Tiffany
　 Garden Museum. This situation can be corrected only by personal meetings, when all sides
　will come with good intentions and do their best to make the museum a big success story.

3. If there is an option to continue the collaboration - How to make this museum a success
　story. One result can also make the burden of budget smaller or even take the burden away
　and make it a self sufficient cultural center, using the wonderful Tiffany collection as a core.

 In order to give chance to the best solution the owner have to be convinced to leave the
　collection in the museum during April 2007. (even if the museum will be closed during this month).

 During April few meetings should be arranged, the first with the owner in his place. During
　 these meetings business plans for each idea (including schedule, budget, human resources and
　marketing program, etc.) should be discussed.

 Until the end of April a new concept should be agreed upon and from May the museum should
　 enter a new period in which the all ideas will start being implemented.

I am ready to help in every part of this process and maybe first to have a meeting with the
　 owner in order to see if there is a chance to continue, or his mind is already set.

I hope that for the sake of the Art in general and Tiffany in particular, it will be a big
lose, if the collection will not be in the place that was really build for it and which is
really amazing, as I mentioned in my opening.


One Idea (for example)

Generally speaking I think that if the museum will have active galleries concerning Tiffany’s
art with different programs (few hours, for one day, or a seminar for few days). The museum
and the city will market this creative activity (as part of the museum program) then the museum
will become alive with different activities, for all ages.
Also the people can leave the place with a piece of art that they create.

Marketing should be done in the region, all over Japan, and to all tour agents that are bringing
foreign tourists to Japan.

In order to make it attractive and interesting to foreign tourists the active galleries should
have Japanese art and also combinations, including Tiffany way of Art with Japanese art.

I hope you can forward this letter to the owner, to Mr. Komatsu, to the Mayor and to everyone
that you think can help solving this problem.
